Did Ram Mandir, Ration, and Modi’s Guarantee Fail BJP? Discover the 5 Major Reasons for Their Setback

Elections 2024 Results: Did the public not trust BJP's promises like Ram Mandir, free ration and 'Modi ki Guarantee'? What are the 5 major reasons for BJP lagging behind...

Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Results Analysis: BJP seems to be facing a major setback in the results of Lok Sabha elections 2024. This time BJP seems to be far from the majority figure on its own. According to the trends till 5:00 pm, BJP is leading on 244 seats, which is far from the majority figure of 272 seats. But the NDA alliance has crossed the majority figure with 295 seats.

On the other hand, the opposition India Alliance performed well in the elections this time. It is leading on 231 seats. Congress alone is leading on 100 seats. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party is ahead on 34 seats. Trinamool Congress is leading on 29 seats and DMK is ahead on 22 seats.

Why did BJP suffer such a setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections? Why did its seats decrease even more than in 2014 and 2019? Did the public not trust BJP’s promises like Ram Mandir, free ration and ‘Modi ki Guarantee’?

What are the 5 major reasons for BJP lagging behind…

1. Ticket distribution

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had to suffer the biggest loss due to ticket distribution. This time the party had cut the tickets of more than 100 MPs who won in 2019. New faces were fielded in most places. Most of these were leaders who had left other parties and joined BJP. Those who understand BJP’s politics closely say that the party had to bear the brunt of this in the elections.

2. Inflation-Unemployment

Despite claims like ‘Modi ki Guarantee’ and schemes like free ration, inflation and unemployment emerged as a big issue in this election. In many states, opposition parties were cornering the BJP on the issue of inflation and unemployment. They also made it an issue in the elections. The issue of paper leak and loss of jobs was raised, but the BJP ignored it.

3. Dissatisfaction with MPs

An expert who keeps an eye on BJP’s politics told News18 that in most of the states of the Hindi belt, people were dissatisfied with the party’s MPs because most of the MPs did not visit their constituencies during the last 5 years. In a way, they were disconnected from the public. In 2014 and 2019, they got votes on the face of Modi, but this time people changed their mind.

4. Muslim Reservation

During the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP raised the issue of Muslim reservation very aggressively. Prime Minister Modi accused the opposition of reservation politics in all his rallies. But it seems that this issue backfired on the BJP. The opposition got a landslide vote in Muslim-dominated seats.

5. CAA-NRC and UCC

The issue of CAA-NRC and UCC also caused a dent to the BJP. The opposition tried to unite voters in the name of this. This effort seems to be successful to a large extent. For example, in West Bengal, where the BJP had won 18 out of 42 seats in 2019, this time the seats were reduced to half. Whereas Mamata Banerjee’s seats increased from 22 to 30.
