IPL 2025 Mega Auction First Day- 72 Players Sold, 467.95 Crores Spent: Pant is The Most Expensive Player in History, Gets 27 Crores; Shreyas Bid 26.75 Crores

IPL 2025 Mega Auction: The auction process for the 18th season of IPL has started. First day- 72 players sold, Pant is the most expensive player in history yet.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction First Day: 84 players were auctioned in the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on Sunday. 10 teams bought 72 players and spent 467.95 crores on them. Now the second day’s auction will start on Monday at 3:30 pm. Bids will be placed on 493 players. Out of which 132 players will be bought. 10 franchises have an amount of 174 crores remaining.

On the first day, the biggest bid was made on Rishabh Pant. He was bought by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 27 crore. Pant has become the most expensive player in IPL history. Shreyas Iyer has come in second place, who was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore.

Venkatesh Iyer has become the third most expensive Indian. He was bought by Kolkata for 23.75 crores. Yuzvendra Chahal is the most expensive spinner in IPL history. Yuzvendra was bought by Punjab Kings for 18 crores.

These players fetched the highest bids in the auction, highlighting their immense demand and impact potential in the league.

Wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player in IPL history. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and LSG made heavy bids on former Delhi captain Pant. Finally, Delhi was asked if it would like to buy Pant with the right to match option, Delhi said yes. But Lucknow placed a bid of 27 crores and after this Delhi backed off.

Shreyas Iyer, who made Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) champions last season, was bought by Punjab Kings for 26.75 crores. Shreyas played an innings of 130 runs in 57 balls on 23 November in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

1. Yuzvendra is the most expensive spinner in IPL history

Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal was bought by Punjab for Rs 18 crore. With this, he became the most expensive spinner in IPL history. His base price was Rs 2 crore. Chahal played for Rajasthan last season, he took 18 wickets in 15 matches. Chahal is the top wicket taker in IPL history. He made his IPL debut in 2013, since then till 2024 he has taken 205 wickets in 160 matches.

2. Butler is the most expensive foreign player

Jos Buttler

England batsman Jos Buttler was bought by Gujarat Titans for Rs 15.75 crore. His base price was Rs 2 crore. Butler has become the most expensive foreign player to be sold this season. England’s white ball captain Jos played for Rajasthan Royals last season. He scored 359 runs in 11 matches in 2024, including 2 centuries.

3. Starc, who was sold for the highest price last season, is sold for less than half the price

Australian pacer Mitchell Starc was bought by Delhi Capitals for Rs 11.75 crore. Starc became the most expensive player in IPL history in the last mini auction, he was bought by Kolkata for Rs 24.75 crore. Starc played for Kolkata last season, he took 17 wickets in 14 matches.

4. Openers Warner, Bairstow and Padikkal were not sold

  • Known for his aggressive batting, Bairstow failed to attract any buyers this time.

Two capped batsmen remained unsold in the third set. No team bid for Australian batsman David Warner and Indian batsman Devdutt Padikkal in the auction. African captain Aiden Markram has been bought by Punjab at a base price of Rs 2 crore. No one bought England opener Johnny Bairstow. Last season, David Warner played for Delhi, Padikkal for Lucknow and Bairstow for Punjab.

5. Shocking bid on Maxwell and Venkatesh Iyer

Punjab has bought Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for Rs 4.20 crore. His base price was Rs 2 crore. Bangalore did not use the RTM card for him, this bid surprised everyone. Last season, while playing for Bangalore, he scored 52 runs in 10 matches and took 6 wickets. Maxwell has gone to Punjab for the third time.

Venkatesh Iyer, who made Kolkata the champion last season, has been re-inducted into the team by the franchise. He has been bought by KKR for Rs 23.75 crore. With this, he has become the third most expensive Indian player in IPL history. But Kolkata did not show any interest in its former captain Shreyas Iyer. Punjab bought him by making the second-highest bid in IPL history.

6. Rasikh Dar is the most expensive uncapped player this season

Right-arm fast bowler Rasikh Dar was bought by Bangalore for 6 crores. His base price was 30 lakhs. Last season, he took 9 wickets in 8 matches for Kolkata. Dar has become the most expensive uncapped player this season.
