Raipur: Workers have received a significant boost on the very first day of the implementation of the VB G-Ram-Ji scheme. The Government of India has notified new wage rates for unskilled workers under the ‘Viksit Bharat – Employment and Livelihood Guarantee Mission (Rural)’—referred to as VB G-Ram-Ji. These new rates came into effect on July 1, 2026. Under this new system, the daily wage rate for rural workers in Chhattisgarh has been raised from ₹261 to ₹300. This represents a 13% increase in wages, which is unprecedented. This move will provide economic benefits to workers in rural areas and further strengthen rural livelihoods.
Wage Rate Fixed at ₹300 Per Day
A notification issued by the Union Ministry of Rural Development has prescribed revised wage rates for various states, including Chhattisgarh. According to the notification, the wage rate for unskilled manual work in Chhattisgarh has been set at ₹300 per day. The state government has ensured all necessary preparations for the effective implementation of the VB G-Ram-Ji scheme and for providing employment to rural families.
VB G-Ram-Ji Implemented in the State Alongside the Rest of the Country
Starting today, the VB G-Ram-Ji scheme has been implemented in the state, just as it has across the rest of the country. Workers throughout the state are welcoming the initiative with enthusiasm, and a sense of excitement is visible at work sites. In every village across the state, the launch of VB G-Ram-Ji is being celebrated like a festival, with information about the scheme being shared with everyone.
State-Level Launch on July 2 at Gram Panchayat Gandaikhurd
While the national launch of the program will be conducted by Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan from Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, on July 2, 2026, the state-level event will be held at Gram Panchayat Gandaikhurd in the Bodla Development Block of Kabirdham district. Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development, Vijay Sharma, will attend the event. Now, a Guarantee of 125 Days of Employment
Under this scheme, rural households will be assured of 125 days of employment annually, along with wage payments within 15 days, unemployment allowances, digital job cards, a technology-based work management system, and a timely, transparent payment mechanism. The initiative emphasizes water conservation, irrigation, rural roads, plantation, and the creation of durable assets, while also focusing on skill development and livelihood opportunities for rural youth. Furthermore, development plans for Gram Panchayats will now be formulated through the Gram Sabha, enabling the selection of projects that align with local needs.
