Mahtari Vandan Yojana: The monthly financial assistance of ₹1,000 provided under the Mahtari Vandan Yojana has become a vital economic support for lakhs of women in the district; however, over 20,000 women now face the risk of losing this benefit. The reason is the incomplete e-KYC process. If the e-KYC is not completed by June 30, the next installment for these women could be stalled. According to data from the Department of Women and Child Development, e-KYC needs to be completed for a total of 3.18 lakh women in the district. While verification has been completed for 2.98 lakh women so far, the e-KYC process remains pending for 20,116 women. The administration is continuously urging all eligible beneficiaries to complete the process before the deadline.
The biggest challenge regarding e-KYC is faced by women who are elderly, differently-abled, or unable to reach the centers due to health issues. Additionally, a large number of women have migrated to other states in search of employment. In many instances, biometric verification fails because thumbprints do not match the machine’s records, preventing the process from being completed. Tikvendra Jatwar, an official from the Department of Women and Child Development, stated that the department is compiling a separate record of all such cases. Information regarding women whose verification is stalled due to technical reasons or who are currently outside the district will be collated and sent to the government so that an appropriate solution can be found.
Departmental teams reaching doorsteps
To expedite the resolution of pending cases, the Department of Women and Child Development has launched a special campaign. A joint team comprising Anganwadi workers, supervisors, and departmental staff has been formed to conduct door-to-door verification. Priority is being given to women who cannot visit ‘Choice Centers’ due to age, illness, or disability. The department has prepared a list of beneficiaries with pending status and handed it over to the concerned staff to ensure that e-KYC is completed for as many women as possible before the deadline. Verification Must Be Completed by June 30
The department has clarified that completing the e-KYC process is mandatory. If verification is not carried out within the stipulated timeframe, the beneficiaries’ next installment could be affected. Consequently, the administration is running continuous awareness campaigns, urging women to complete their e-KYC as soon as possible. The funds from the Mahtari Vandan Yojana have become a crucial part of the monthly household expenses for many families. With the deadline approaching, anxiety has mounted among thousands of women, and they are striving to get their e-KYC completed by any means necessary.
