Will AI now monitor exams? Calls rise to overhaul the CGPSC-Vyapam system in Chhattisgarh.

Raipur: New technologies are increasingly being employed to enhance transparency and security in competitive examinations. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has utilized Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify 569 suspicious and duplicate applications, effectively blocking them at the initial stage. Following this UPSC initiative, discussions have begun in Chhattisgarh regarding whether the CGPSC and Vyapam might adopt AI-based screening systems in the future. Such measures could help curb issues like fraudulent applications, the use of dummy candidates, and other examination-related irregularities. Experts note that malpractices—such as the use of dummy candidates, fake applications, and multiple submissions by concealing one’s identity—pose significant challenges in competitive exams. Candidates often attempt to outsmart the system by exploiting technical loopholes.

Currently, many state-level examinations rely on limited technical mechanisms for data matching and identity verification. Advanced AI systems, however, could enable the early detection of suspicious activities. Students preparing for competitive exams in Raipur argue that if a premier institution like the UPSC can use technology to prevent irregularities at the application stage, similar systems should be implemented for state recruitment examinations as well.

Experts suggest that features such as AI-based duplicate detection, data analytics, and identity verification could be integrated into the digital platforms of the CGPSC and Vyapam. This would allow for the identification of suspicious profiles and subsequent action before the examination even begins. However, experts also emphasize that relying solely on technology is insufficient; human oversight is essential alongside AI systems to ensure that deserving candidates do not face difficulties due to technical errors. According to coaching institute operator Kartikeya Pandey, transparency is the most critical requirement in competitive examinations today, and technologies like AI can significantly mitigate problems such as fraudulent applications and dummy candidates.
