Dehradun woman allegedly locked in toilet for 10 months, assaulted and starved by in-laws

A shocking case of alleged domestic abuse has emerged from Dehradun, where a woman was reportedly locked inside a room and toilet for nearly 10 months and subjected to severe physical torture by her husband and in-laws. Police have registered a case at Selakui Police Station based on a complaint filed by her father, naming the husband Rahul Khanduri and his parents as accused.

According to the complaint, the woman, who married two years ago and gave birth to twins in February 2025, was confined to a single room and toilet in her in-laws’ house while her husband worked in Delhi. Her father alleged that she survived on minimal food such as raw rice, onions, and chillies, and was repeatedly beaten with rods, sticks, bottles, and household objects, causing serious injuries.

The complaint further states that she was not allowed to contact her family or leave the house during this period. Whenever relatives tried to reach her, they were allegedly told she was either sleeping or bathing, while in reality she remained confined and abused inside the house.

Her father has also alleged that the woman’s in-laws inflicted brutal physical violence, including pulling out her hair and causing injuries to sensitive parts of her body. He claimed she was repeatedly threatened with death and denied basic human dignity throughout the ordeal.

The family also alleged that they were prevented from meeting her and were asked to wait before visiting her home, with the in-laws accusing them of interfering in her marriage. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
