The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that there is no proposal currently under consideration for a Middle East–India deepwater pipeline, dismissing recent media reports suggesting active discussions on the project.
The ministry stated that it had taken note of reports claiming that India was pursuing a deep-sea energy pipeline linking Gujarat with Oman and other Gulf countries. It categorically denied any such initiative, saying there are no ongoing talks or negotiations with Oman or any other country regarding the project.
Officials emphasized that the reports suggesting progress on the so-called Middle East–India Deepwater Pipeline are inaccurate and not based on any formal proposal within the government.
The clarification comes amid speculation in sections of the media about India exploring alternative energy import routes through undersea pipelines. However, the ministry’s statement makes it clear that no such project is currently being evaluated or discussed at any official level.
The government has urged media outlets to rely on verified information and avoid reporting unconfirmed developments related to strategic energy infrastructure.
