The US military stated that the charter aircraft, carrying eight individuals, crashed at a remote radar site in western Alaska, killing everyone on board. The crash occurred on Thursday at the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site airport, located approximately 450 miles (725 kilometers) west of Anchorage, Alaska. The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center reported launching a search and rescue mission after receiving a report of an “aircraft incident” near the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site. US Air Force Lieutenant General Robert Davis said, “This is a tremendous loss for our military family and the communities we serve.” He is the commander of Alaska Command, the Alaskan North American Aerospace Defense Command Region, and the Eleventh Air Force. Clint Johnson, the Alaska region chief of the National Transportation Safety Board, stated that the plane was carrying two pilots and six passengers. He noted that the aircraft had departed from Anchorage and is believed to have crashed near Cape Newenham on Thursday afternoon.
