UGC-NET Exam Cancelled: Amidst the NEET controversy, now another exam has been cancelled. UGC-NET 2024 exam has been cancelled. NET exam was held on 18th June itself. UGC has received input of paper leak from the Home Ministry. In such a situation, there is a suspicion of breach of sanctity of the exam. After which the exam was cancelled. This exam is also conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). New dates of the exam will be announced soon. The investigation of the case has been handed over to the CBI.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the UGC-NET June 2024 examination in OMR (pen and paper) mode in two shifts across various cities in the country on June 18, 2024. On June 19, 2024, the University Grants Commission (UGC) received certain inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analysis Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the examination. These inputs prima facie indicate that the integrity of the above examination has been compromised.
In order to ensure the highest level of transparency of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, Government of India has decided to cancel the UGC-NET June 2024 examination. A fresh examination will be conducted, for which information will be shared separately. Also, the case is being handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for in-depth investigation of the matter.
In the matter related to NEET (UG) Examination-2024, the issue related to grace marks has already been fully addressed. Regarding some alleged irregularities in the conduct of the examination in Patna, a detailed report has been sought from the Economic Offences Unit of Bihar Police. The government will take further action on receipt of this report.
The government is committed to ensuring the integrity of examinations and protecting the interests of students. It is reiterated that strict action will be taken against any person/organisation found involved in this matter.
The exam was held on 18 June
UGC NET (NET 2024) exam was conducted on Tuesday, 18 June. 11,21,225 students had registered for the June session exam of NET, however only 9,08,580 students appeared in the exam. How was the UGC NET exam and how was the paper this time, according to the feedback received from the students, the first shift of UGC NET exam was easy, but it was also time taking. That is, it was also taking time to solve Paper 1. If we talk about the overall paper, then the paper of NET exam was easy to moderate.
The exam was conducted in pen-paper mode
UGC NET exam was conducted in 83 subjects. The exam was held in 2 shifts on the same day. The first shift was from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and the second shift was from 3 pm to 6 pm.
UCG Chairman M. Jagadeesh Kumar had said that the exam was held in 317 cities across the country. Out of more than 11.21 lakh registered candidates, about 81% appeared.
Earlier, the UGC NET exam was an online CBT i.e. computer based test. This change was made so that exams for all subjects and at all centres could be conducted on the same day. Also, exams could be conducted at far-flung centres as well.
Congress said- Modi government has become a ‘paper leak government’
On the cancellation of UGC-NET exam, Congress said on X- Modi government is playing with the future of the youth. Yesterday UGC-NET exam was conducted in various cities of the country. Today the exam was cancelled on suspicion of paper leak. First the NEET paper was leaked and now UGC-NET’s, Modi government has become a ‘paper leak government’.
NTA is surrounded due to controversy in NEET exam
National Testing Agency i.e. NTA is already surrounded by allegations regarding NEET UG 2024 controversy. In this matter, the Supreme Court has also issued a notice of two weeks to NTA. Its next hearing will be on July 8.
