Chasing the target of 184 runs, Rajasthan Royals team scored 189 runs for 4 wickets in 19.1 overs. Rajasthan did not have a good start. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal lost his wicket on the second ball of the first over of the innings. After this, captain Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler snatched the victory from the jaws of RCB by making a partnership of 148 runs for the second wicket. Virat single-handedly fought the fort
Virat Kohli scored a record eighth century in IPL but Royal Challengers Bangalore could only score 183 runs for 3 wickets against Rajasthan Royals. Kohli played brilliant pulls and flicks in his innings. He scored 113 runs in 72 balls and so far 38 percent of RCB’s total runs in the tournament have come from his bat. Kohli hit 12 fours and three sixes in his innings. Except captain Faf du Plessis (44 runs in 33 balls), he did not get any support from the other end.
Kohli completed his century in 67 balls
Kohli completed his half-century in 39 balls and scored the next 50 runs in 28 balls. He touched the triple figure by taking a run off Nandre Berger’s ball in the 19th over. Glenn Maxwell (one) and debutant left-handed batsman Sourav Chauhan (nine) were out cheaply. Chauhan could not repeat the form of Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. Royals’ spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal bowled economically in the middle overs. Ashwin gave 28 runs in four overs while Chahal took two wickets for 34 runs.
Virat-Duplessis added 125 runs
Giving RCB the best start in this season of IPL, Kohli and Du Plessis shared a 125-run partnership for the first wicket. Both scored 53 runs within the powerplay. Ashwin gave only three runs in the fifth over. Kohli hit shots all around the field to fast bowlers Trent Boult and Burger. Burger gave 26 runs in two overs of the powerplay. Chahal curbed Kohli’s bat in the eighth over and gave only four runs.
Virat got a lifeline on the score of 66
Du Plessis hit two sixes to Bolt in the ninth over while Kohli hit a six to former RCB teammate Chahal. Sanju Samson handed the ball to Riyan Parag in the 11th over who troubled both the batsmen but could not take a wicket. He dropped the return catch of Du Plessis. Chahal broke this partnership and dismissed Du Plessis in the 14th over. In the same over, Kohli got a lifeline on the score of 66 when Burger dropped his catch. However, on the next ball, Butler caught Du Plessis at long on.
