Google, Samsung unveil Gemini AI-Powered Smart Glasses At Google I/O 2026

Google and Samsung have officially unveiled their new AI-powered smart glasses at Google I/O 2026, marking a major step into the next generation of wearable technology.

The smart glasses, developed jointly by the two tech giants, come in collaboration with luxury eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. The companies showcased two stylish designs aimed at both premium fashion users and mainstream consumers.

Powered by Google’s Gemini AI and Android XR platform, the glasses are designed to work alongside smartphones and offer features such as real-time translation, navigation, hands-free assistance and AI-powered contextual search.

Unlike full augmented reality headsets, Google clarified that the first-generation devices are “audio glasses” and do not feature built-in displays inside the lenses. However, they include cameras, microphones and speakers for AI-driven interactions.

Users will be able to ask Gemini questions about their surroundings, get restaurant recommendations, receive message summaries, translate conversations and capture photos or videos directly through the glasses.

Google also demonstrated AI-powered image editing tools, including “Nano Banana”, which can reportedly edit or regenerate images using prompts.

Samsung is handling the hardware development, while Google powers the software experience through Android XR. The smart glasses are expected to launch in select markets later this year, though pricing details have not yet been announced.
