New Delhi: A significant change in weather conditions is expected across the country within the next 12 hours. While states like Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are grappling with floods following heavy rainfall, people in Delhi and Rajasthan are reeling under scorching heat. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh alert for 15 states, combining warnings with the prospect of relief. These states are expected to witness heavy rainfall and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 70 kmph. According to meteorologists, this shift is primarily driven by cyclonic systems over Telangana and the Bay of Bengal, which remain highly active.

The states for which the alert has been issued include Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Assam.
Relief from Heat Soon in Delhi-NCR
Residents of Delhi-NCR are set to get relief from the intense heat very soon. The IMD has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for Tuesday (June 30) and Wednesday (July 1). During this period, there is a strong likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by rain. Rainfall intensity may increase further after July 1.
60 kmph Storms Expected in Uttar Pradesh
A heavy rain warning has been issued for several districts in UP on June 29. Areas including Prayagraj, Kanpur, Agra, Mathura, Ghaziabad, Noida (Gautam Buddha Nagar), Moradabad, and Sultanpur may experience heavy rain along with dust storms blowing at speeds of 60 kmph.
Heavy Rain and Storm Alert for Bihar
Alerts for heavy rain and storms have been issued for several districts in Bihar, including Patna, West and East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, and Bhagalpur. An alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for the capital, Jaipur, starting July 2, with intermittent showers expected to continue for the next 4–5 days.
Heavy Rain Alert for West Bengal
A ‘Red Alert’ for heavy rainfall—potentially reaching up to 200 mm—has been issued for the hilly districts of West Bengal, including Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, and Alipurduar. Continuous rainfall over the past few days has triggered landslides in several areas, severing links between the hills and the plains and disrupting normal life.
Torrential Rain Havoc in South India
An ‘Orange Alert’ for heavy to very heavy rainfall is in effect for four districts in Kerala—including Kasaragod, Kannur, and Wayanad—while a ‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for the remaining ten districts. Rainfall could reach up to 20 cm in some areas.
Torrential rain accompanied by strong winds is forecast for several parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and the hilly regions of Nilgiris and Coimbatore. The maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to hover around 37°C.
