Rain wreaks havoc across the country! Maharashtra in distress; heavy downpour expected in Delhi for three days; check the latest situation in UP, Bihar, and other states.

New Delhi: With the onset of July, the monsoon has become fully active across the country, but its impact is most pronounced in Maharashtra. The Meteorological Department has issued ‘Red’ and ‘Orange’ alerts for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in several parts of Maharashtra for July 7. Authorities have advised people to remain alert and step out of their homes only if necessary.

Why has the situation worsened in Maharashtra?

According to the Meteorological Department, a low-pressure area formed over Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh is moving rapidly. Simultaneously, moisture-laden winds from the Arabian Sea have significantly strengthened the rainfall system over Maharashtra’s coastal and Ghat regions, triggering a spell of torrential rain across the state.

Overcast conditions have prevailed since this morning in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and Raigad. The Meteorological Department predicts intermittent heavy rainfall throughout the day in these areas. Heavy to extremely heavy rain is likely in the Ghat regions of Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Pune.

Weather outlook for Delhi-NCR

The weather in the capital, Delhi, has remained pleasant since the monsoon’s arrival. Light to moderate rain is expected on the morning or afternoon of July 7, accompanied by winds blowing at speeds of up to 50 km/h. This spell of storms and rain is expected to continue on July 8 and 9.

Heavy rain warning for UP and Bihar

A rainfall alert has been issued for Uttar Pradesh—covering Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Meerut, as well as other parts of eastern and western UP—from July 7 to 12. Meanwhile, several districts in Bihar, including Patna, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur, face a risk of lightning strikes and winds gusting at 40–60 km/h today.

Situation in Rajasthan and Jharkhand

Adverse weather conditions are expected in several districts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur, from July 7 to 12. Very heavy rainfall is likely in eastern Rajasthan until July 9, while heavy rain is expected in western Rajasthan on July 7 and 8. Rainfall is expected to continue until July 12 in several parts of Jharkhand, including Ranchi and Jamshedpur, due to the impact of a depression. Alerts have been issued for lightning strikes and strong winds blowing at speeds of 40–60 km/h during this period.

High Alert in Hill States

Meanwhile, alerts for widespread rainfall have been issued for the hill states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from July 7 to July 12. Very heavy rainfall is anticipated in isolated areas of both states on July 7, raising the risk of landslides in the hilly regions.

In Jammu & Kashmir, districts including Srinagar and Jammu are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by rain and strong winds reaching speeds of 40–60 km/h until July 12.
