New Delhi: Many parts of the country are currently grappling with havoc caused by rainfall. Landslides and heavy rains have created flood-like situations in various areas. The Meteorological Department has issued alerts for heavy rain in several states today as well, although the monsoon appears to be weakening in some regions. Alerts remain in effect for Delhi-NCR and Uttar Pradesh. The Meteorological Department has urged people in hilly areas to stay alert and exercise caution.
Rain Likely in Delhi-NCR Today
Residents of Delhi-NCR are unlikely to get any respite from the rain today. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for the region for July 11. Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is expected in some parts of Delhi on Saturday. According to the department, wind speeds could reach 75 to 80 kmph. Humidity levels may rise due to the rainfall. The maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be 37°C, with a minimum of 29°C.
Orange Alert Issued for Rain in UP
The Meteorological Department has reported that the Southwest Monsoon has intensified over Uttar Pradesh. The IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ for the state, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas through July 11 due to active monsoon conditions. In the last 24 hours, Mawana in Meerut recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 315 mm, followed by Jansath in Muzaffarnagar with 270.1 mm. Notably, two people died in rain-related incidents in UP on Friday.
Monsoon Weakens in Rajasthan
The Meteorological Department has predicted that the monsoon will weaken in Rajasthan starting Friday, bringing a halt to the spell of heavy rainfall. The monsoon is expected to remain subdued across the state from July 10-11, a condition likely to persist for about a week. Meanwhile, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry across most parts of Rajasthan, with only isolated light rainfall likely.

Significant parts of West Bengal experienced heavy rainfall on Friday. Commuters in rain-soaked Kolkata, including school-goers and office workers, are facing considerable inconvenience.
Alert for 7 Districts in Uttarakhand
Heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours in Uttarakhand triggered landslides and led to the closure of 118 roads across the state. The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rain in isolated areas of Dehradun, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, Champawat, Nainital, and Bageshwar for Saturday, July 11. Strong winds are also likely during this period. Authorities have stepped up monitoring following the department’s warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. A 100-meter stretch of the Yamunotri National Highway in Uttarkashi was damaged by a landslide. Continuous rain has caused water levels to rise in the Ganga, Yamuna, and their tributaries, as well as in several smaller rivers.
Landslide Alert for Jammu & Kashmir
The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for several areas in Jammu & Kashmir for July 11 and 12, advising people to remain cautious regarding floods, landslides, and rainfall. Heavy rain lashed the Mendhar sub-division of Poonch district on Friday, inundating several areas. Several houses were damaged, and dozens of people were stranded amidst the rising waters; however, police personnel conducted a rescue operation and safely evacuated 25 individuals, with assistance from locals. Officials stated that the situation is being closely monitored. They have advised residents living near rivers, streams, and flood-prone areas to stay alert and avoid unnecessary movement, as heavy rainfall continues in the region. Regarding Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rainfall and landslides in several areas. A ‘yellow alert’ for heavy rain has been issued for six districts: Kangra, Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur. Prior to this, heavy to very heavy rainfall had already disrupted normal life in many areas; roads were closed, bridges were damaged, and trees were uprooted. Schools remained closed in several parts of the state. Officials reported that commuters faced difficulties in Shimla due to the closure of 27 link roads. Incidents of falling stones were reported on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway—specifically between Waknaghat and Kandaghat, and between Dharampur and Chakki Mor. There is also a looming threat of landslides at the Sangla Bridge in Kinnaur district.
Week-long Alert for Northeastern States
In its bulletin, the IMD stated that fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura between July 10 and 16. It also noted that rainfall activity is expected to remain subdued over central and south peninsular India during the next 6–7 days.
