Delhi NCR weather shifts suddenly hailstorm rain bring relief from heatwave

Delhi-NCR witnessed a sudden and dramatic shift in weather on Thursday afternoon, as rain, thunderstorms, and hailstorms swept across the region, bringing much-needed relief from the ongoing heatwave. The unexpected change led to a noticeable drop in temperature, ending days of intense heat that had pushed mercury levels above 40 degrees Celsius in several areas. Residents reported dark skies, strong winds, and brief spells of heavy rain across parts of the capital and neighbouring regions.

Weather agencies had earlier predicted such conditions, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 to 50 km per hour across Delhi NCR. In some areas, hailstorms accompanied the rain, creating near-evening conditions during the day and further cooling the region. The sudden weather activity is linked to pre-monsoon patterns and western disturbances affecting north India.

While the change has brought temporary relief from the scorching heat, authorities have advised residents to remain cautious due to possible disruptions such as waterlogging, traffic congestion, and strong winds. Meteorologists suggest that similar weather conditions may continue over the next few days, offering intermittent respite but also signalling unstable pre-monsoon activity in the region.
