ICC Rankings: There has been another major shake-up in the ICC rankings. Abhishek Sharma, who held the top spot for a considerable time, has now lost it. However, there is a silver lining: fellow Indian player Ishan Kishan has risen to the number one position. Former captain Suryakumar Yadav, currently out of the Indian squad, has also suffered a setback; he is now on the verge of dropping out of the top 10. Further changes are expected during the upcoming India vs. England series.
Ishan Kishan reaches the top of the ICC rankings for the first time
The ICC has released its latest updated rankings following the conclusion of the India vs. Ireland T20 series and just before the start of the England series. India’s Ishan Kishan has successfully claimed the number one spot. His rating has risen to 876, marking an all-time high for him in both ranking and rating. This is the first time he has reached the number one position; he previously held the second spot, meaning he has gained one place.
Narrow rating gap between Abhishek and Ishan
Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma has dropped one place, moving from first to second. His rating has decreased to 869. However, the gap in rankings and ratings between Ishan and Abhishek is minimal, so the standings could shift again when both batters take the field in the England T20 series, which consists of five matches.
Suryakumar Yadav slips one spot due to inactivity
Suryakumar Yadav, currently out of the Indian team, has lost one position. He has moved from seventh to eighth place. Since the Indian team has played two matches without Surya, his rating has declined. Jos Buttler has benefited from this, moving up one spot to number seven. Buttler currently holds a rating of 716, while Surya is at 708. There have been no other changes in the top 10 of the T20 rankings. Rankings Set to Change Again in the Coming Days
A five-match T20 series between India and England is now set to begin. The first match will be played on July 1st. The rankings of the Indian and English players will undergo further changes based on their performances during this series—a factor that is going to be highly significant.
