The ICC has once again released the latest Test rankings, revealing several notable shifts. England captain Joe Root and Indian team captain Shubman Gill have both suffered setbacks this time around. Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Babar Azam has dropped out of the top 10. On the other hand, Steve Smith has gained one spot.
Latest ICC rankings released following the India vs. Sri Lanka Test series
The new ICC Test rankings have been released following the India vs. Sri Lanka Test series. Notably, England’s Harry Brook retains the top spot, currently holding a rating of 856. Australia’s Steve Smith has moved up one place to second position with a rating of 840. Joe Root has slipped one spot to third place with a rating of 820; he paid the price for failing to score many runs in the second match of the series between England and Pakistan.
Shubman Gill close to dropping out of top 10; Pant holds onto seventh spot
Meanwhile, Indian captain Shubman Gill has not yet dropped out of the top 10, but he is certainly facing a threat. Gill has slipped two places to ninth position with a rating of 709. However, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant remains in seventh place with a rating of 713. Pakistan captain Babar Azam has suffered the biggest setback, dropping out of the top 10 to 15th place; his rating has fallen to 679. Conversely, Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel has made a significant leap of 15 places, reaching the 18th spot.
Daryl Mitchell also sees a slight gain
Australia’s Travis Head holds the fourth spot with a rating of 811. South Africa’s Temba Bavuma is at number 5, and New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra is in sixth place. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has also seen a slight gain of one spot; he has now moved up to eighth place.
