New Delhi: Seven new judges took the oath of office at the Delhi High Court today; this group includes three women. With these appointments, the total number of sitting judges at the Delhi High Court has risen to 50. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the High Court complex at 10:00 AM, where Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya administered the oath of office to all the newly appointed judges.
Seven Judicial Officers from District Courts Assume High Court Roles
Those sworn in as High Court judges include Justice Nivedita Anil Sharma, Justice Nisha Saxena, Justice Sanjay Sharma, Justice Bharat Parashar, Justice Dr. Aditi Choudhary, Justice Dinesh Bhatt, and Justice Arun Bhardwaj. Prior to this, all of them were serving as judicial officers in Delhi’s district courts.
During the ceremony, Justice Nivedita Anil Sharma and Justice Nisha Saxena took the oath in English, while Justice Sanjay Sharma, Justice Bharat Parashar, Justice Dr. Aditi Choudhary, Justice Dinesh Bhatt, and Justice Arun Bhardwaj took the oath in Hindi.
Two Permanent Judges and Five Additional Judges Appointed
Among the seven appointments, Justice Nivedita Anil Sharma and Justice Nisha Saxena were sworn in as High Court judges. Meanwhile, Justice Sanjay Sharma, Justice Bharat Parashar, Justice Dr. Aditi Choudhary, Justice Dinesh Bhatt, and Justice Arun Bhardwaj were appointed as Additional Judges.
The Central Government had announced these seven appointments on September 19, following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. With these judges assuming office, the total strength of judges at the Delhi High Court has reached 50.
Sanctioned Strength of 60; 10 Vacancies Remain
The sanctioned strength of judges for the Delhi High Court is 60. Even after the appointment of these seven new judges, 10 positions remain vacant against the sanctioned capacity. These new appointments are expected to enhance the capacity for hearing pending cases and disposing of judicial matters.
