New Delhi: Repair work has commenced on the Karampura-Moti Nagar flyover in West Delhi. The Public Works Department (PWD) has set a 40-day deadline to complete the repairs. During this period, traffic flow on the route leading from Karampura-Shivdas Puri Road towards Shadipur—via Kirti Nagar Road (Patel Road)—will be affected. The Delhi Traffic Police has advised motorists to avoid this route and use alternative paths if possible.
Flyover to be closed in two phases
According to the Delhi Traffic Police, the Karampura-Moti Nagar flyover will be closed in phases. In the first phase, the carriageway leading from Karampura towards Kirti Nagar will remain closed until October 9. Subsequently, the carriageway from Kirti Nagar towards Karampura will be closed from October 10 to October 29.
However, vehicular movement on the service road will continue during this period. The traffic police have urged commuters to plan their journeys in advance and allow for extra travel time when setting out. Motorists have been advised to follow diversion signs and adhere to instructions from the traffic police.
U-turn to be constructed in Shaheen Bagh
A U-turn will be constructed on Road No. 13-A in the Shaheen Bagh area of South-East Delhi to improve traffic management. The PWD will spend approximately ₹22 lakh on this project. Officials state that long queues of vehicles often form in this section due to the traffic signal.
To alleviate traffic congestion, the Delhi Traffic Police had suggested removing the signal and constructing a U-turn. The project aims for completion within approximately two months. Once the U-turn is built, efforts will be made to streamline vehicular movement on this route.
Outer Ring Road affected by Kalkaji-Modi flyover construction
Traffic on the Outer Ring Road in South Delhi is also being impacted by construction work related to the Kalkaji and Modi Mill flyovers. Motorists are facing traffic jams lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours.
Although the PWD and Delhi Traffic Police have implemented traffic management measures around the construction site, the congestion has not been fully brought under control. Local residents have urged that the construction work affect as few traffic lanes as possible to ensure the smooth flow of vehicles.
Kalkaji Bridge Closed; Bottlenecks Form in Several Areas
Work is underway to widen the Kalkaji flyover on the Outer Ring Road and connect it to the Modi Mill flyover. Consequently, the Kalkaji bridge has been closed. Meanwhile, construction activities near the Okhla NIC bus stop have created a bottleneck, affecting two lanes on either side of the road.
Traffic Jams Persist Despite Opening of a Cut
To provide relief to vehicles heading towards Lajpat Nagar, Garhi Village, and East of Kailash, the traffic police opened a cut leading to Captain Gaur Marg after the descent from the Modi Mill flyover. However, traffic congestion remains an issue in the area despite this measure.
In light of this, motorists traveling through the Karampura-Moti Nagar flyover repair zone and the Kalkaji-Modi flyover construction area are advised to check route conditions before setting out and to allow for extra travel time.
