CSK vs PBKS IPL 2024: Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 7 wickets in the match played at Chepauk Stadium. Thanks to the explosive innings of Jonny Bairstow and Riley Russo, Punjab won this match with 13 balls to spare. Playing first, CSK scored 162 runs thanks to a strong fifty by Rituraj Gaikwad. When Punjab came out to chase the target, Prabhsimran lost his wicket early, who scored 13 runs. On the other hand, Jonny Bairstow was in no mood to spare anyone today as he scored 46 runs in 30 balls, including 7 fours and 1 six. After Bairstow was out, Russo’s stormy innings left the CSK bowling helpless. Russo scored 43 runs in 23 balls, hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Punjab Kings had scored 52 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in the powerplay overs. Bairstow’s explosive batting laid the foundation for Punjab’s victory. Although Riley Russo also could not hit a fifty, by the end of 15 overs the team had scored 135 runs for the loss of 3 wickets. Punjab Kings still needed 28 runs to win in 5 overs. 20 runs came in the next 2 overs, taking PBKS’ score to 155 after 18 overs. Punjab now needed only 8 runs in 18 balls to win. Shashank Singh scored 25 runs in 26 balls and Sam Curran scored 26 runs in 20 balls. A 50-run partnership between them ensured Punjab’s victory. With this, Punjab Kings have kept their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive. Let us tell you that CSK’s last win against Punjab Kings came in April 2021. After that, Chennai Super Kings had to face 5 consecutive defeats at the hands of Punjab.

CSK bowlers lost their breath

Deepak Chahar left the field due to injury after bowling 2 balls in the first over. His departure was a setback for Chennai’s bowling as Jonny Bairstow dominated his opposition bowlers. Shardul Thakur and Richard Gleeson took one wicket each. Shivam Dubey bowled for the first time in IPL 2024 and he also took the wicket of Jonny Bairstow in the very first over. Meanwhile, Mustafizur Rahman surprised everyone by bowling a maiden over against Shashank Singh.

Chennai set a target of 163 runs for Punjab

Chennai Super Kings, who came to bat first after losing the toss in Chepauk, could only score 162 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Chennai, which had a stormy start in the powerplay, could not hit any boundary between 8 to 15 overs. In 6 overs, the team’s score was 55 runs without any wicket, but in 16 overs the score was around 110. For Chennai, captain Rituraj Gaikwad played an innings of 62 runs in 48 balls. 5 fours and 2 sixes came off his bat.
