Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case: Sonam Raghuvanshi, an accused in the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case, has received significant relief. The Supreme Court has refused to cancel her bail. The Court issued a notice regarding the Meghalaya government’s plea, with the next hearing scheduled for Thursday of next week. The Meghalaya government had approached the apex court challenging the bail granted to Sonam Raghuvanshi by the Meghalaya High Court. Last Thursday, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta mentioned the case, describing it as a very serious matter that required an urgent hearing; the Supreme Court subsequently agreed to hear the case.
Not inclined to stay the bail – Supreme Court
During the hearing, the Supreme Court observed that since Sonam had already been released, it was not inclined to stay the bail order. Consequently, the Court issued a notice to Sonam Raghuvanshi regarding the Meghalaya government’s plea. The Court stated it would first examine the progress of the trial while maintaining Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail.
Why did the same judge grant bail on the fourth attempt after rejecting it three times?
The plea challenging Sonam Raghuvanshi’s bail was heard by a bench comprising Justice MM Sundresh and Justice Sheel Nagu. During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta remarked, “This is a shocking murder case. It was inappropriate for the High Court to grant bail. The very judge who had rejected the bail plea three times granted it on the fourth attempt, even though a supplementary charge sheet had already been filed in the case.”
Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder was premeditated
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta further stated, “I will show just four pages. The couple went to Meghalaya for their honeymoon. This was a premeditated murder. The wife took her husband to a hilly area and participated in the attack.” He was subsequently murdered, and his body was dumped into a ravine. The woman had brought three assailants along and personally participated in the killing. After fleeing, she was arrested in Uttar Pradesh.
The Story of the Raja Raghuvanshi Murder Case
