Delhi University women’s hostel students protest over alleged forced evictions and extortion

Students residing at the University Hostel for Women (UHW) at Delhi University staged a late-night sit-in protest, alleging forced evictions, extortion, and disruption of basic facilities by the hostel administration.

The protest reportedly began around 9:30 pm and continued past midnight, with students gathering on campus roads and raising slogans demanding action.

According to student groups, including the All India Students’ Association (AISA), residents claimed they had been facing increasing pressure for several days despite many students already paying hostel fees in advance.

Protesting students alleged that water supply disruptions, removal of basic facilities, and administrative actions were creating difficulties during an important period of semester examinations and preparation for competitive exams like NET and NEET.

Videos and images from the protest circulated on social media, showing students demanding discussions with hostel authorities and seeking immediate intervention. The issue has raised concerns over student welfare and accommodation management within educational institutions.

The administration’s response regarding the allegations remains closely watched as students continue seeking solutions to their concerns. The incident has also reignited discussions around campus facilities, student rights, and the importance of ensuring a safe and supportive environment in university hostels.
