Piyush Goyal, Chile Foreign Minister discuss strategic Trade Partnership, CEPA progress

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held discussions with Chile’s Foreign Minister to review progress on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and explore ways to strengthen strategic trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting focused on advancing negotiations under the India-Chile CEPA framework, which aims to expand bilateral trade, improve market access, and deepen investment linkages between the two nations.

Both sides reviewed ongoing progress in the trade talks and reaffirmed their commitment to concluding the agreement in a timely manner. The discussions also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in emerging sectors such as digital services, critical minerals, and sustainable development.

CEPA negotiations between India and Chile were formally launched following the signing of Terms of Reference in 2025, marking a major step toward a broader economic partnership. Since then, multiple rounds of talks have been held, with both countries expressing optimism over achieving substantial convergence across key chapters.

Officials noted that the proposed agreement is expected to significantly enhance trade volumes and open new avenues for businesses on both sides. It is also seen as part of India’s wider push to strengthen trade ties with Latin American economies. The India-Chile partnership has grown steadily in recent years, with both countries working to diversify economic engagement and build stronger global value chain connections.
