At least 60 people were injured after an overloaded private bus overturned on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district on Tuesday, officials said.
The accident took place when the speeding bus lost control and overturned, triggering panic among passengers. Emergency response teams rushed to the spot soon after the incident, rescuing passengers and shifting the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding and overloading may have contributed to the crash. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause and whether safety norms were violated.
The Purvanchal Expressway has witnessed multiple road accidents in the past, raising concerns over enforcement of traffic rules, particularly regarding speeding and vehicle overloading.
