Suvendu Adhikari visits Tagore ancestral home before starting work as Bengal CM

Newly sworn-in West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday visited Jorasanko Thakurbari, the ancestral home of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, shortly after taking oath as the state’s first BJP chief minister.

Adhikari paid floral tributes to Tagore before formally beginning his official duties as Chief Minister. Dressed in a traditional dhoti and saffron panjabi, Adhikari said he wanted to seek the blessings of “Kaviguru” Rabindranath Tagore before starting administrative work.

My official work begins after paying tribute to Kaviguru, he said during the visit. Invoking the teachings of Swami Vivekananda, Adhikari referred to the phrase Charaiveti, meaning keep moving forward” and urged people to work together for the development of a new Bengal”.

He said the state should focus on rebuilding and progress rather than political blame or criticism. Let us rebuild Bengal, the Chief Minister said, adding that the moment marked the beginning of a new chapter for the state. Adhikari also stated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had wished for such a day and described the occasion as historic for West Bengal.
