The issues that have led to a rift between RSS and BJP
1- Ignoring every advice of RSS on Ram Mandir proved costly
A senior RSS functionary says, ‘BJP had stopped listening to RSS on Ram Mandir issue. It started with the allegation of financial irregularities on Champat Rai. RSS called Champat Rai to the representative assembly of Chitrakoot and also gave him a strict warning. After this, BJP directly took the issue of Ram Mandir in its hands. It did not even consider it necessary to pay attention to the advice of RSS.’
2- Ramlala’s Pran Pratishtha had to be made a national movement, not a political one
RSS had directly talked to BJP on this issue. It believed that Ram Mandir is not a political movement. Politics should be avoided on this. This is a Hindutva issue. It is people’s faith. If people feel that politics is being done on Ram Mandir, then they will distance themselves from BJP. This advice of RSS was also not heeded. The result was that BJP could not even save the Ayodhya seat.
3- RSS did not want a government with ED-CBI
RSS was constantly telling BJP not to use ED-CBI in the elections. Due to this, a section of the opposition is considering it a victim. BJP is getting the image of a tormenting dictator. The opposition will benefit from this. Our workers on the ground are not able to answer this. They are becoming defensive. BJP ignored this warning as well.
4- RSS had told BJP – Don’t become a washing machine
RSS had also warned BJP about its washing machine image. The party was inducting leaders who were accused of corruption. RSS had said that this issue is harming BJP on the ground. The opposition is being portrayed as a victim. Rahul Gandhi is constantly coming forward as a persecuted leader of BJP. However, once again BJP remained adamant. RSS’s advice was shelved.
5- RSS was not in agreement with ticket distribution in UP
UP has given a big jolt to BJP in the elections. RSS had sensed this jolt at the time of ticket distribution itself. RSS had expressed disagreement on candidates on more than 10 seats. These included seats like Pratapgarh, Shravasti, Kaushambi, Raebareli and Kanpur. Apart from Kanpur, BJP candidates have lost on all seats.
RSS said that except for a few MPs, we should give tickets to new people, as we have done in Delhi. However, RSS seemed helpless even in the matter of ticket distribution.
6- RSS dislikes slogans like Modi Government and Modi ki Guaranty
RSS has been upset with the slogan of Modi Government since 2014. This slogan does not fit in the ideology of RSS. RSS does not give preference to a person, but to an organization or a group. The slogan of Modi Government makes a person appear supreme.
BJP seemed to be returning to power after a long exile, so RSS remained silent on this. Now there is a discussion on whether it was a big mistake to consider Modi as the most important in the elections.
The Conclusion
The growing rift between RSS and BJP highlights fundamental disagreements on key issues that have traditionally united them. From the handling of the Ram Mandir to the use of slogans that elevate individual leadership over collective ideology, RSS’s concerns have been consistently sidelined by BJP. This disregard for RSS’s advice has not only strained their relationship but also impacted BJP’s political fortunes, as seen in recent election setbacks. The tension raises critical questions about the future of this alliance and whether BJP’s approach could undermine its standing among its core supporters, ultimately affecting its long-term dominance in Indian politics.
