Major weather alert! Risk of torrential rain across 15 states, including Delhi, UP, and Bihar; ‘Red’ and ‘Orange’ alerts issued for several areas.

New Delhi: The monsoon is in full swing across large parts of the country. Heavy rains and storms continue to lash areas stretching from Delhi to Mumbai. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high alert for heavy rain, lightning, and storms in 15 states over the next few hours. According to the weather department, strong winds reaching speeds of 70 km/h are likely during this period. People have been advised to stay indoors and remain alert.

Alert issued for these 15 states
The states for which the weather department has issued warnings of heavy rain and storms include Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Kerala. Additionally, the situation remains critical in Gujarat.

Weather update for these states
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue in the national capital, Delhi, and surrounding areas from July 8 to July 10. Today, the maximum temperature is forecast to be 33°C and the minimum 25°C. Rainfall activity may see a slight decline starting July 11.
Torrential rain warnings have been issued for several districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Muzaffarnagar. Extremely heavy rainfall is likely in some parts of Western UP, keeping temperatures below normal.
An alert for storms and rain, accompanied by winds reaching 70 km/h, has been issued for several districts in Bihar, including Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Gaya. Patna’s maximum temperature is likely to hover around 33°C.
A ‘Yellow’ alert has been issued for Mumbai, while an ‘Orange’ alert is in effect for Thane, Maharashtra, today.
Meanwhile, a ‘Red alert’ has been issued for several parts of Gujarat due to the risk of floods and waterlogging.
Extremely heavy rainfall is likely in several districts of Rajasthan—including Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur—on July 8 and 9. The intensity of rainfall here will ease slightly from July 10.
An ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for several districts in West Bengal, including Kolkata and Darjeeling. Rivers such as the Teesta and Torsa are in spate, raising the threat of flooding in low-lying areas.
