IPL 2024: Strength and Weakness of LSG; Batting Lucknow’s strong side but Lack of experience in fast bowlers

IPL 2024: Lucknow Supergiants, which made it to the playoffs in the first two seasons, will play their first match in the Indian Premier League against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on March 24. The team has to play four matches in the first two weeks.

IPL 2024: Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) Captain KL Rahul has become fit and joined the team’s training camp a day ago. He was doing rehab at the NCA (National Cricket Academy). Fast bowler Mark Wood has withdrawn from the Indian League due to work load management. In his place, young West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph has joined the team.

Mavi’s arrival added depth to the batting; Wood’s departure weakened the fast bowling

In the last auction, the Lucknow franchise bought 6 players. These include two foreign players and three uncapped players. Lucknow’s batting has become stronger this season. The team already has names like KL Rahul, Kyle Mayers, Marcus Stoinis, Quinton de Kock and Nicholas Pooran. Now David Willey, Ashton Turner, Arshad Khan, Arshen Kulkarni and Shivam Mavi have also joined.

Wood’s replacements in bowling are players like Shamar Joseph, Amit Mishra and Ravi Bishnoi.

Possible playing-11

Lucknow Supergiants (LSG): KL Rahul (captain), Quinton de Kock, Devdutt Padikkal, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis, Shivam Mavi, Ravi Bishnoi, Shamar Joseph, Mohsin Khan.
Impact Player: Ayush Badoni.

Strength

  • Many options in the top-middle order Lucknow’s top and middle order batting is excellent. It has names like Devdutt Padikkal, Kyle Mayers and KL Rahul. Stoinis scored more than 400 runs last season.
  • Depth in batting, batting till number 8 After the last auction, the team’s batting has become deeper. Captain Rahul will play in the middle order. After Mavi’s arrival, the team’s batting has become strong till number 8. All-round options have also increased.
  • Lucknow’s finishing is already strong in the form of Pooran and Stoinis. Both are adept at playing big shots.

Weakness

  • Fitness of captain KL Rahul Lucknow’s captain Rahul was injured in the middle of the tournament last season. He is making a comeback from injury. In such a situation, his form and fitness are a matter of concern.
  • Wood left, no backup for Joseph Fast bowler Mark Wood has left the Indian league due to workload management. In such a situation, the fast bowling will be affected. Although the franchise has roped in young West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph, he does not have experience of bowling in this T20 league and on Indian pitches. Indian pacers are also new.
  • The team which is unable to cross the playoff hurdle has been entering the playoffs in the last two seasons, but is unable to cross the playoff hurdle. Such players will be under pressure to move ahead from the playoffs.
