MI vs CSK IPL 2024: Despite Rohit Sharma’s Century, Mumbai Indians Suffer Defeat as CSK Wins by 20 Runs

MI vs CSK IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians had a target of 207 runs to win, but despite Rohit Sharma's century, Hardik Pandya's team fell 20 runs short of victory.

MI vs CSK IPL 2024: Performing brilliantly at the Wankhede Stadium, the Chennai Super Kings team has achieved its fourth success of the season. At the same time, the Mumbai team has faced its fourth defeat of IPL 2024. Former captain Rohit Sharma tried his best to win for Mumbai, but he failed. He faced a total of 63 balls while opening the innings. Meanwhile, he played an unbeaten century of 105 runs at a strike rate of 166.67. During this, 11 fours and 5 excellent sixes came off his bat. Despite this excellent innings of Sharma, the MI team had to face defeat by 20 runs against CSK.

MS Dhoni hit three consecutive sixes

Earlier, after being invited to bat first, Chennai had a bad start when their new opener Ajinkya Rahane (5) returned to the pavilion cheaply. Ravindra Rachin (21) was also out soon, but from here Shivam Dubey (66 not out) and captain Rituraj Gaikwad (69), who were in tremendous form, thrashed the Mumbai bowlers. Both of them made a partnership of 90 runs for the third wicket, while in the last moments, former captain MS Dhoni (20 not out) hit three consecutive sixes and gave Chennai a target of 206 runs in the quota of twenty overs. Despite being beaten badly, Hardik Pandya was the highest wicket-taker for Mumbai with two wickets, while Goetzi got one wicket.

Rohit Sharma scored a century, but the other batsmen did not support him

Actually, Rohit Sharma did not get support from other batsmen. Rohit Sharma held on to one end, but on the other end, batsmen kept returning to the pavilion at regular intervals. Tilak Verma played an innings of 31 runs in 20 balls. While Ishan Kishan scored 23 runs in 15 balls. Suryakumar Yadav got out without scoring any runs. Apart from this, batsmen like Tim David and Romariah Shepherd disappointed. Hence, the Mumbai Indians team remained 20 runs short of the target.

Earlier, Mumbai captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. The final XI of both the teams playing in the match is as follows:

Mumbai (Playing XI):

Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Tilak Verma, Hardik Pandya (captain), Tim David, Mohammad Nabi, Romario Shepherd, Shreyas Gopal, Jasprit Bumrah, Gerald Coetzee, Akash Madhwal

Chennai (Playing XI):

Rituraj Gaikwad (captain), Rachin Ravindra, Ajinkya Rahane, Darrell Mitchell, Shivam Dubey, Ravindra Jadeja, Sameer Rizvi, MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Shardul Thakur, Mustafizur Rahman, Tushar Deshpande

Super Kings, who are trying to get back on track, are at the third position with 6 points after winning 3 out of 4 matches played so far, while Mumbai Indians, who are making a comeback after winning their last two matches, are currently at the seventh position after winning 2 out of 5 matches. And one more win will make their position very strong. The match is at their home, so it is obvious that there is going to be a tough competition between the two star-studded teams.
