ICC Rankings: Young Indian opening batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who initially struggled to make an impact in his first three T20 International matches, played excellent half-century knocks in two games of the three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe. Thanks to these performances, the 15-year-old managed to win both the ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Series’ awards. Vaibhav has now made a significant splash in the latest ICC T20 batting rankings; having been ranked 278th after the England series, he has surged to the 48th position.
Vaibhav Climbs the Rankings While Abhishek Sharma Slips
In the three-match T20 series against Zimbabwe, 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored a total of 151 runs—including two half-centuries—at an impressive average of 50.33, propelling him to the 48th spot in the ICC T20 batting rankings with 536 rating points. Regarding other Indian players in the series against Zimbabwe, Ishan Kishan, who scored 145 runs, retains the top spot with 910 rating points. Meanwhile, Team India opener Abhishek Sharma—who had long dominated the rankings—has slipped to the third position with 819 rating points.
Tilak Varma Also Improves His Ranking
Team India vice-captain Tilak Varma, who had performed poorly with the bat during the T20 series against England, improved his standing in the ICC T20 batting rankings by scoring 77 runs—including a half-century—across three innings in the series against Zimbabwe. On the back of this, Tilak Varma has seen an improvement in his rankings, climbing to the 7th spot with 750 rating points and overtaking England captain Harry Brook and Jos Buttler.
