Monsoon Alert: Most of the states of the country including Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are reeling under severe heat. North India and Central India, which are battling the heat, are waiting for the southwest monsoon. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the monsoon may reach Odisha, coastal Andhra Pradesh and the northwestern Bay of Bengal in the next three to four days.
According to the weather department, the monsoon is expected to reach Bihar and Jharkhand by June 16-18, Uttar Pradesh by June 20-30 and Delhi around June 27, which is the normal onset date for the national capital.

How was the weather?
Severe heat was also observed in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jharkhand and Gangetic plains of West Bengal. The maximum temperature in some parts of western Jharkhand, southern Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh-Delhi, Punjab, northern Rajasthan was between 45-47 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature of 47.5 degrees was recorded in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
The officer said, “Monsoon is weak in the Bay of Bengal and it is awaited to move forward from there.” On Wednesday (12 June), severe heat was felt in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, most parts of Jharkhand, many parts of northern Rajasthan, some parts of Himachal Pradesh, southern Bihar, northern Odisha and the coastal areas of Ganga in West Bengal.
How will the weather be in Delhi and UP?
Former Earth Sciences Secretary Madhavan Rajeevan said that after normal progress, the monsoon sequence is getting disrupted. Rajeevan said on the social media platform X, “Not much progress is expected in the next 8-10 days, so its onset in North India may be delayed. This is likely to cause extreme temperatures and heatwaves in North India including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.”

According to the IMD, monsoon is expected to arrive in Delhi around June 27. Strong winds and partly cloudy sky are expected at most places on Thursday.
The maximum and minimum temperatures on June 13 are expected to be around 45 and 30 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Wednesday was recorded at 44.7 degrees Celsius, which is about five degrees above normal.
The weather department bulletin said that other weather stations in Delhi like Narela recorded a maximum temperature of 47.5 degrees Celsius, while Aya Nagar recorded 45.9 degrees Celsius, Ridge 46.4 degrees Celsius and Palam 45.5 degrees Celsius.
Why is it getting hot in North India?
Meteorologists say that hot winds coming from the northwest are dominating the weak monsoon over the Bay of Bengal. This is increasing the hot weather conditions in parts of central and northern India.
