Ebola Outbreak in Congo: Ebola’s deadly toll in Congo! WHO issues a grave warning amidst 2,325 deaths and 5,000 infections.

Ebola Outbreak in Congo: The Ebola virus is spreading rapidly in the African nation of Congo. With 2,325 deaths recorded so far, this has become the deadliest Ebola outbreak in the country’s history. According to health officials, the number of infected individuals has risen to 4,945. A report by Congo’s National Public Health Institute indicates that 101 new cases have emerged in the last 24 hours. The United Nations (UN) has also expressed concern over the situation, noting that this is becoming the fastest-spreading Ebola outbreak to date.

Cases Continue to Rise
According to the report from Congo’s National Public Health Institute, 101 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours. The UN has expressed concern, stating that this is shaping up to be the fastest-spreading Ebola outbreak ever. Tom Fletcher, the UN’s humanitarian affairs chief, warned that the situation could worsen significantly if large-scale measures are not taken in time.

Outbreak Surpasses Previous Records
Between 2018 and 2020, Ebola claimed 2,299 lives in Congo. This new outbreak is even more lethal. Doctors warn that if the virus continues to spread at this pace, it could surpass the scale of the 2014–2016 West Africa Ebola epidemic, which resulted in over 11,000 deaths.

Why is Ebola More Dangerous This Time?
The strain of Ebola currently spreading is known as “Bundibugyo.” There is currently no approved vaccine or effective treatment available for this specific strain. Health experts state that a weak healthcare system, remote locations, and ongoing conflict in border areas are making it difficult to provide timely assistance to patients.

Is There a Vaccine or Treatment Available? Currently, there is no approved vaccine or medication for this specific strain. Trials for new drugs and vaccines are underway, and doctors are investigating whether existing Ebola treatments are effective against it.

How does the Ebola virus spread?
The Ebola virus typically transmits from wild animals—such as bats, porcupines, and certain monkey species—to humans. It subsequently spreads through direct contact with the blood, bodily fluids, organs, or other secretions of an infected individual. It can also spread via contaminated bedding or clothing.

What are the symptoms of the Ebola virus?
Vomiting
Bleeding from the ears, nose, or mouth
Abdominal pain
Weakness or flu-like symptoms
Pain in various parts of the body
Skin eruptions or rashes on different parts of the body can also indicate Ebola.
