CJI DY Chandrachud: ‘One Must Be Loyal to the Constitution,’ Says CJI Before Lok Sabha Elections

CJI DY Chandrachud has said that lawyers should think before commenting on the Supreme Court's decision, because they are not common people. Their statement matters.

CJI DY Chandrachud: Before the Lok Sabha elections, the Chief Justice of the country DY Chandrachud has made important remarks. He stressed that lawyers and judges should be loyal to the Constitution. Justice Chandrachud stressed that it is important for judges to be non-partisan.

“In a vibrant and argumentative democracy like ours, most people are inclined towards one political ideology or another. Aristotle had said that humans are political animals, and lawyers are no exception. However, members of the bar should not be partisan with the court and the Constitution,” Justice DY Chandrachud said at the centenary celebrations of the Nagpur High Court Bar Association.

Chief Justice said a big thing about the judiciary system

The Chief Justice of the country has also made important comments about the judiciary system of India. He said that the judiciary has repeatedly come forward for its independence and non-partisanship, separation of powers from the executive, legislature and vested political interests. However, we should not forget that there is a deep connection between the independence of the judiciary and the independence of the bar.

He said the independence of the Bar as an institution serves as a “moral bulwark to protect the rule of law and constitutional rule”.

Advice to those who question the decision of the Supreme Court

The CJI said that the decisions of the constitutional benches of the Supreme Court represent rigorous action, thorough legal analysis and commitment to constitutional principles. He said, “Once the decision is pronounced, it becomes public property. As an institution, we have broad shoulders. We accept both praise and criticism. This praise and criticism, whether through journalism, political commentary or social media. If we say something, it has a big impact.

The Chief Justice said that the members and office bearers of the Bar Association, lawyers should not make comments on the general public while reacting to the court’s decisions.
